After MST3K and before CINEMATIC TITANIC, Joel Hodgson and his brother Jim played with a new making-fun-of-movies format called The JollyFilter, where they took older movies, added CGI elements and created new, jolly versions. It’s like what Lucas did with the first three STAR WARS movies, only entertaining.

Here’s what Joel said on the YouTube page:

Jollyfilter was a test I created with my brother, Jim Hodgson in 2000. It is essentually a new way to repurpose pre-existing film.

Jim and I had a development deal with USA networks and because they were a part of Universal, we were able to secure the answer print from the film “Rollercoaster” for this test.

It looked like a lot of fun and the application is pretty limitless. My only question is do you need knowledge of the original film to appreciate the JollyFiltered version? As you’ll see in a moment, knowing what the movie looks like un-JollyFiltered makes the JollyFiltered one that much funnier. Although, the Hodgson boys had a deal with Universal so they certainly had access to more mainstream movies.

Here’s their test posted to YouTube by Joel himself.

Speaking of thinsg related to MST3K and posting to YouTube, someone videotaped the 20th anniversary reunion (moderated by Patton Oswalt) at Comic Con. The image is horrible and in SIX parts, so just listen to the audio and enjoy.

Jimmy Dore is 1/3 of my new favorite weekly podcast, COMEDY AND EVERYTHING ELSE. He, Todd Glass and Jimmy’s wife/girlfriend (?) Stefané Zamorano talk about comedy, and well, everything else. (NOTE: Brilliant description Don.) It’s always interesting podding (I just coined that word), especially when they talk the business and art of comedy. Professional talking about their craft is always entertaining to me.

On this week’s show they discussed Jimmy’s new 1 hour special on Comedy Central called Citizen Jimmy (August 1st at 11 PM). Lo and behold, CC Insider has a couple tastes of Jimmy via their new web series Politibits. Here’s a taste of the taste:

This is about a year old, but still funny. To be fair, I laugh at anything sped up to Yakety Sax. Except maybe 9/11.

I never got into ROME (the short-lived HBO miniseries). But Janeane Garofolo did! This is her at OBSESSED, Jackie Clarke and Julie Klausner’s Show from last January.

The Devil’s Advocate is my ultimate Guilty Pleasure movie. It seems Scott Tobias of The AV Club agrees with me. Nice!
